Unlock your inner cowboy! This bold Southwestern-style rub combines savory chili, garlic, onion, cumin, cilantro, and oregano with the warm sweetness of basil, cinnamon, and cloves.
It’s especially good on slow-cooked and smoked meats. Rub it generously on brisket, ribs, burgers, or beef roasts, or stir it into a pot of chili for an extra layer of deep, smoky flavor.
Ingredients: Ancho Chili, Garlic, Onion, Cumin, Basil, Cinnamon, Cloves, Cayenne, Cilantro, Mexican Oregano
Cowboy Brisket
Coat a brisket lightly with oil, then season generously with the rub. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight. Smoke or slow-cook until tender, then let rest before slicing.
Cowboy Chili
Brown 1 pound of ground beef with one chopped onion. Add 1–2 tablespoons of the rub, a can of diced tomatoes, a can of beans, and about 1 cup of beef broth. Simmer for 30–45 minutes and adjust seasoning to taste.
