Allspice Ground
Despite the name, allspice isn’t a blend at all. It comes from a single dried berry that happens to taste a little like cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and pepper all rolled into one. Basically, one spice doing the work of four.
Allspice is native to the Caribbean and Central America, and Jamaica is especially famous for producing some of the most flavorful berries. Ground allspice is great in both sweet and savory dishes. Use it in apple and pumpkin desserts, cookies, jerk seasoning, barbecue rubs, chili, meatballs, roasted vegetables, and slow-cooked meats.
