Black salt, also known as rock salt or kala namak, is mined in central India and in the Himalayas. When it is finely ground, it is a pinkish gray salt rich in minerals. this is the coarse version of this salt before it is ground. Its smoky, tangy taste heightens the flavor in foods. Black salt is likely to be found in deep-fried snacks, chaats and tasty salads. This is not a salt to be used lightly by someone with a Western palate. There is a high sulfur content in this salt.
